I have drawn dog walking clients to my combination pet sitting & dog walking business by making up specific dog walking flyers highlighting this portion of my business. This seems to work semi-well at times. I'm curious what methods those that draw in a large amount of mid-day clients use to attract these specific clients?
I'm guessing those in large cities have different tactics than those in suburban areas, so I'd love to hear from both!

My most effective target for mid-day breaks and dog walks are HOA newsletters. This is especially true if I already have a client or two in that particular neighborhood. I run a small ad that gives basic info, and mention that I already have clients in the neighborhood. When interested parties call, I use my clients from that particular neighborhood as references. (I give my clients who agree to let me use them as references a $5 off coupon if the prospective client who calls them decides to book and pay for visits. It's been a very good incentive!)

That is a good incentive! I give a similar incentive, but only to clients that personally refer someone that books service. I hadn't thought about an incentive for references.
What do you say in your ad about having clients in the area?

I've honestly never tried the advertising method above, but it does sound like alot of fun. What should or how should I begin? This is a very interesting subject. Wish everybody much success! Camie. www.cafepress.com/sprucecartoonsNice to be here!

Welcome Camie - Are you asking how you should begin making a dog specific flyer or how to distribute them? To make my flyers I just made up a flyer with my biz logo and then listed all the reasons one might want to use a dog walking service...better behaved dogs, much needed potty break for puppies and older dogs, etc. Then I added my biz contact info. I made sure to also add a line saying "Pet Sitting Services also available". Then I went around to condo and apartment complexes and posted them on boards near the mailboxes. (Many of our complexes have boards for notices.) I also posted them anywhere I found a b-board that allowed ads. Some stores and cafe's have them. So pretty much I just wandered town and fouynd places to leave them. I also keep extras in the car, so if I'm out and about and see a place to stick one, then I already have one handy. Oh, I also bought a box of tacks since many boards either didn't provide them or the ones they did provide were being used.
Hope that helps! If not, ask some more! :-)
